The Studio, built in 1924 for Jessie Traill, at 7-13 Baker Road, Harkaway. How is it significant? The Studio is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Casey. Why is it significant? The Studio is significant for its associations with the major Australian woman artist, Jessie Traill. Jessie was notable for her etchings, watercolour sketches and prints of the Australian landscape and grand-scale Australian construction projects. Jessie painted in her Harkaway studio and, in her last years, lived there. The Studio is intact and relates to the adjoining cottage built for Jessie and her sister Elsie in 1918-19. As well as earning a world reputation for painting and etching, and exhibiting in London, Paris and San Francisco as well as throughout Australia, Jessie worked as a nurse in France during the First World War, and was a life-long traveller. The Studio, retains its original use as an artist's studio, and its historical importance is enhanced by its secluded setting amidst native vegetation. | | 22 Sep 2015 | Development of an Extension to Existing Dwelling, Construction of a New Shed/Store and Vegetation Removal | (Source: City of Casey, reference no: PlnA00339/15 ) | | 06 Dec 2022 | VICSMART - Removal of One Tree | (Source: , reference no: ) |
