Built in the 1880s and 1890s with alterations at the turn of the century, it stands next to the historic Harkaway Primary School. Agnes Amelia Louise Nichol, widow, mother of three sons, and daughter of German pioneer farmer, John Martin Freidrich Fritzlaff, owned the property from 1883 until her death in 1948. The young widow supported herself and her sons by working as a 'sewing teacher' at the school next door. She typifies the courageous and hard-working early women settlers who contributed so much to the development of the Berwick district. |
