Of state significance because the garden is associated with Ferdinand Von Mueller, director of Melbourne's Botanic Gardens in 1867 who was a friend of the first owner C.H. Kauper. It also has associations with Mr Guilfoyle, Curator of the Botanic Gardens from 1873 who helped Thomas Kennon design the house and gardens.
