It is associated with residential developments in Stawell in the second half of the 19th century, and it demonstrates original design qualities of the Victorian style. These qualities include the hipped roof form, together with the ogee form verandah that projects towards the street frontage. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the symmetrical composition, single storey height, horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, painted brick chimneys with corbelled tops, narrow eaves with paired timber brackets, paterae and panelling, paired timber framed double hung windows, central timber framed doorway with sidelights and highlights, and the timber panelling in the bases of the sidelights.
